Having left her failed marriage and children behind, Rena relocated to Twin Pines at the age of 29 to start anew. She harbored regret over relinquishing custody of her children to her workaholic ex-husband. However, three years later, she befriended Dew and his grandfather, eventually offering to teach Dew Bōjutsu free of charge. In times when Dew's grandfather was away on business, Rena would step in as Dew's caretaker. Even though having other students, Rena devoted herself to Dew's training, often instructing him outside of regular hours. She marveled at his rapid progress, reminiscent of her own learning experience under her adopted father's guidance. Dew affectionately calls her Sifu, indicating her role as his teacher. Rena possesses extensive knowledge of martial arts weaponry and science, and unlike her younger companions in the party, she is quick to catch on to things. Ironically, she remains unaware of Dew's secret crush on her.
