My Experience with N. N. Light’s Book Heaven 👎🏽

I want to share my recent experience with N. N. Light’s Book Heaven for the benefit of fellow authors, particularly young and aspiring writers and those who write simply because they love the craft.

I previously had positive and professional experiences with N. N. Light’s Book Heaven, which reviewed the first two volumes of my Valor Tale series in 2020 and 2021. Unfortunately, my recent experience with Valor Tale: Renascence, Volume III was very different.

The organization accused my manuscript of containing “AI prompts,” later identifying sections labeled “Scenario #1” and “Scenario #2” as the issue. These are branching narrative scenarios, not AI prompts. Branching scenarios and alternate narrative paths are common devices throughout RPGs, and Valor Tale has consistently used a script/playwriting-style format.

After I explained this to them, instead of admitting their mistake, they chose to double down by offering no apology and blocking me on social media. For that reason, I cannot recommend their reviewing services to aspiring, independent, or hobbyist authors. Accusations of AI use should be supported by evidence and made only after the material has been properly understood in context.
